Sitting pain is a common condition in several patient groups. Pain when sitting results from the loss of fat (lipoatrophy) and muscle (sarcopenia) in the buttocks and thighs and occurs as a normal part of aging. This condition is accelerated and worsened in certain disease conditions such as cancer and long term HIV treatment and AIDS. Approximately 50% of seniors and cancer patients and 60% of long term HIV treated patients have varying degrees of sitting pain.
